    I think Owlcat got WAY to ambitious with a brand new system and didnt test it nearly enough. Past level 30 I didn't even care about leveling up cause everything was so convoluted. I would just search for which passive makes the damage number go up and take that over and over till the end of the game. I couldnt even tell you what skills my characters had at the end of the game lol. I would just keep mashing different skills on enemies till my ap ran out without even looking at what they did. I still loved the characters and the story, and the world. But F me I cant be bothered to spend hours and hours trying to understand a game system that will only prolly be for ONE game.

    I mean, you can make an Arch Militant that can perpetually take extra turns, move after attacks, and basically stack so much versatility they can 1 shot entire encounters during their infinitely long turns. It is fun to walk up to a boss after blasting all his minions and hit him for almost his entire hitpoint pool in one hit, but it certainly seems like Owlcat probably didn't mean for this to happen.

    Just a note on Elden ring. Most negative reviews are coming from China and the key issue for them is the anti-cheat software. That’s what’s dragging the score down.

    This all seems like great news to me. I don’t get the perspective people have where they want their boring OP officer/navigator spam with the pivot on the grand strategist/STI combo. That just clears the whole game so easily.

    Pyro psykers were made to be a doge melee unit. Arch militant is good because it self stacks. Grand stratagists needs int buffs not fellowship buffs.

    The only thing good about those changes is the buff to Psykers. In a multiplayer game I can understand nefing for balance, but in a single player game? No. If people want a game to be harder give them a higher difficulty mode, or additional settings where you can disable or reduce the effects of buffs/abilities, that way those of us who are not masochists can go about our lives unmolested while keeping those with a pain fetish happy as well.

    Personally, I am not interested in any video game romances. If they have to be there though, I agree with you that characters having personalities where they are interested in a specific thing is the way to go. In Baldur's Gate 2 I used to play a dwarf or half-orc because I was tired of Jaheira, Aerie, and Viconia always wanting a piece of my Bhaalspawn. It gives you reasons to replay the game if you're into that sort of thing, and also makes the existing ones more impactful since they were specifically written. I think it is absolutely ridiculous when devs program all characters to be interested in your main character regardless of race, gender and alignment. But, I'm very biased because I want nothing to do with romances in my games... I just want to clear out that undead infested mausoleum or rescue my old friend from that malevolent sorcerer.

    Basically, your conclusion... why are we nerfing a single player game? Just buff what's weak and focus on story and bugs. Just make additional harder modes so that casuals (like me) are still able to play and have fun.

    I’m sad about the changes to officers, who made it so my enemies were almost always good & dead before they even got a single turn, but I’ll be excited to check out all the other changes to what was my favorite game of 2023.

    The fact that doing a "No-Cassia" run is something genuinely considered a thing to make the game not feel very unbalanced, especially first half of the game, says a lot about the current state of ability balance. Really fun game, but glad they're not shying away from making very large balance changes

      @@SlanderedGaming Yeah I feel like a lot of people just have a bias towards wanting to buff things rather than nerfs, which is fair enough, but I'd say the power level is legitimately just too high for those other things that bringing everything else up to their level would legitimately make unfair not even very difficult. Currently doing a hard run, and still the only way most fights last longer than 1 turn is solely based on initiative, which I think is a solid sign of the power level of characters in general being too high, with some obviously worse offenders

      Granted, this is coming from someone who is admittedly "good" at these games, but Owlcat games have always been great about being able to offer a satisfying hard experience for those who want it, which I don't feel they've done as good of a job with RT's balancing on the higher end despite overall enjoying the system more than Pathfinder. Based on comments seems like those who play on easier difficulties are having a hard time and those who play on harder difficulties are having an easier time than they'd like, which I think is again largely due to how overtuned the game can feel as it's too easy to become broken if you can figure out the system, but if you can't you can easily end up with a very bad build more so than in Pathfinder

    I hope that Ignite will still do DoT damage. my Pyro build is a warrior that lights himself on fire and does damage around him.

    Ngl I'm glad they're working on rebalancing the game. My biggest issue with the game was officer/arch-militant destroying everything meanwhile other classes don't feel even close to what those 2 classes can achieve. Cassia just casually destroys half of the battlefield in 1 turn easily is just stupid. However I'll wait until more patches come out to replay the game again

    I played the game as an officer (a noble to be precise). Giving other party members buffs and extra turns made it a fun experience for me because I felt like an officer (I wonder why...) giving orders to his teammates and making them work like a charm. I also leveled Casia in a way that she benefitted from others getting additional turns so now I feel kind of cheated with such update. When it comes to pyro buffs I believe they are sorely needed. In case of WH40K lore pyromancy is utterly dreaded psychic path because first of all it's insanely destructive (which it was not in the game) and secondly lots of pyromancers died in mysterious circumstances due to being killed by their companions who rightfully feared them. Either way in my opinion using a system where specific elements instead of adding to damage multiply it makes it harder to understand how it works and additionally it makes it much harder to balance things. This is the first solo RPG game I ever had to use build guides for party members ever in my life and I don't need anything like that neither in Pathfinder nor Pillars of Eternity.

    Definitely excited to see what's cooking with the expansion. It was odd that pyro was so weak vs telepathy, but having played through as a Sanctic Officer and didn't feel need the psy rating until later for that discipline's buffs. With the Seize the Initiative nerf Grand Strategist will be even more required for Cassia or any officer, so folks can get into position for firing / staying safe, assuming that's not also removed.

    Very happy with these changes. Pyro seemed only geared towards melee and the endless extra term that has become the meta just seemed like cheese.

    I need to finish the final fight before these changes go live. Not usually a doomer when devs balance but this is the first bunch that sounds unfun. Hope they re-balance the last chapters because even with Argenta things are bullet sponges. Not interested in playing a psyker until they add an Inquisitor background

    Two thoughts on this change as a player who is definitely not a min-maxer and finds the combat balance fine as-is: 1. Many of these are not fun changes. I would go so far as to call them anti-fun. The psyker changes are an exception. 2. I need to finish my officer playthrough before this goes live. Suddenly getting all these nerfs in late game combat would be especially un-fun.

    I personally think they're going a bit too far with the nerf bat and will have to dial it down a bit in later patches. I agree that having 3 officers in your party can trivialize the game, even on unfair; but basically removing extra turns will turn the game into even more of a huge slog late game with all the minions we will now have to waste time mowing down. *sigh* There has to be a middle ground somewhere and I hope they find it soon...

    Personally, I think that versatility isn’t the biggest problem: it’s the combo of versatility and the Soldier feat that gives you crit multi every hit. I think the weapon with the highest fire rate can shoot out 25+ bullets with the right gear and buffs with that and over penetration by round 2 an arch-militant Soldier can give themselves 20% crit chance with 3-4x crit multi.

    Lich also work with half spellcaster or melee one, you still have strong magic and abilitys as lich, i did one run with Oracle Lich it was fun :D also you Ainz Ooal Gown was better pick for Lich :D

    I was holding off buying the games until the first patch or two fixed bugs, and my game pass ran out. The game pass ran out last week, and the bugs looked like they’d been squashed, so was planning to pick it up next week Not anymore. They’re nerfing the builds and meta that I was most excited to play, and boosting one I don’t care about. Between this and the Pathfinder debacles, it seems like Owlcat is just Anti-fun.

    As much as I enjoyed my playthrough, I'm going to hold off for all expansions to release before I do a round 2. Agree with you 100% on more voice, better act 5, etc. Not nerfing a single player game. Its like Dos2... if you want to be a barrelmancer and cheese the game, that's on you.

    I have a rule of thumb to wait a year or two for crpgs exactly because of stuff like this. I don't have the time to playthrough multiple times for different patches and dlcs so it's better to wait for the final improved product. I couldn't agree more though with these points from everything I've seen in videos or read in forums about this game. Hopefully this is going in the right direction and will lead to a more balanced and interesting list of options rather than 3 officers and a dps or suck situation. I have a massive game backlog anyway so I don't mind playing other stuff while the game cooks.

    There were a few bosses who might be cool, but I'll never know because Argenta killed them for me before they could do anything. I think the Arch-militant nerfs are warranted. Cassia was also very strong when she could augment her own willpower, but I worry that this is too much of a nerf. I'll try it out in a new playthrough when the dlc releases.

      @@SlanderedGaming every encounter ended up being solved the same way: I boosted my biggest damage dealers and then nuked the board. With the number of minor combats, it made the game tedious. If you scramble the order a little, combat hopefully becomes more like a puzzle with different solutions than only having the one solution.

    Strongly agree that focus on combat is not what I am waiting for. Looks like I will be waiting even longer. I really hate the 1-3 years post release Owlcats takes to make there game complete.. I can never recommend there games due to this alone.

    Unfair on RT felt like Core on WOTR, but these changes still feel half-baked. I'll check this out again when DLC is released and the game feels a little more realized.

    Not started playing RT, so not sure about these changes. I do hope they don't nerf the hippogriff in WotR, at least not before I finish my current play through though LOL

    They wouldn't have had these problems and have to do all this extra work rebalancing the game if they had just stuck to the winning formula of the core rulebook(s) for the TTRPG that made RT, Dark Heresy, Only War, Deathwatch and to a lesser extent Black Crusade the extremely popular and beloved TTRPGs that they were. Seriously, slandeered, I implore you to go at least skim the core rulebooks for any and or all of those TTRPGS and then lament how owl at threw most of it all away in favor of slapping together the confusing, unbalanced hack job system they home brewed for this game. I just do not understand why they stuck hard and fast to the TTRPG rules for Pathfinder but decided to go off the rails for Rogue Trader despite it being a mathematically simpler system that should have been easier to program. It's just XCOM with extra RPG steps, God damn it it's not that difficult! I just can't get in to this weirdo looney tunes version of RT, and it really chaps my hide because I was the perma-GM for a Dark Heresy group for over a decade and was super excited to finally get to play the game I had spent so long running, only to get a wet sandwich instead.
